Almost every article about this says GummySearch shut down in 2025. That is not quite right, and the difference matters if you still have an account.

On 6 November 2025, founder Fed announced that GummySearch could not reach a commercial licensing agreement with Reddit that fit Reddit’s Data API usage policies. Rather than operate without a licence, he closed the business — but not the product.
Sales stopped on 30 November 2025. The product itself stays online through a transition year for people who were already paying. It is still running as you read this.
Source: Fed’s announcement. He puts the user count at 135,000, not the 140,000 most articles repeat.
Most alternative lists treat it as one product. It was not, which is why people pick the wrong replacement and conclude nothing measures up.
| What you used it for | What you need now |
|---|---|
| Watching mentions of your brand, product or keywords | A monitoring tool |
| Researching an audience you had already chosen | A pain-point research tool |
| Working out what to build in the first place | An idea database |
Work out which one you are before reading on.
Emails you when your keywords appear on Reddit, Hacker News or Lobsters. Running since 2017 and delivering over 430,000 alerts a day, which makes it the least likely tool on this page to disappear. The free tier is genuinely usable; paid tiers add more keywords, AI filtering, RSS/JSON feeds and Slack or Discord delivery. Start here before paying anyone.
One flat plan: 25 watchers across subreddits, Reddit users, Hacker News, Mastodon, RSS and X, checked hourly, plus 20 keywords searched Reddit-wide daily. Everything lands in a dataset you can search by meaning and query from Claude or Cursor over MCP. Read-only — it will not post for you. The pick if you want your AI tooling to read Reddit rather than reading it yourself.
Tracks keywords and surfaces threads where someone is looking for what you sell, with AI-drafted replies and subreddit-rule compliance checks. Closer to a Reddit marketing workflow than pure monitoring. The $12 fifteen-day pass is an honest way to test the category without a subscription.
You pick the subreddits, it scans them on demand and returns pain points scored 0–100 with quotes and permalinks, plus AI solution ideas. Starter is 5 scans a day over 2 subreddits; Professional is 15 scans over 5. Best when you have already chosen a niche and want to go deep on it.
Complaints mined from G2, Capterra, Upwork, the App Store and Play Store, packaged as opportunities. Lite and Basic cap you at 20 queries a day; Pro is unlimited and adds revenue and funding intelligence. Pay once. The multi-source approach means less exposure to any single platform changing its API terms — which is exactly what killed GummySearch.
That is us. 200+ business subreddits scanned every 24 hours, every frustrated post scored 0–100 on intensity, frequency and willingness to pay, with AI-generated solution blueprints. Every entry links back to the original public post so you can check it in thirty seconds. Built for discovery, not monitoring — if you want brand alerts, F5Bot or Prowlo will serve you better.
| Tool | Price | Sources | Scoring | Strongest at |

| Prowlo | $19/mo | Reddit, X, HN, Mastodon, RSS | — | Feeding an AI agent |
| RedShip | $19 – $49/mo | — | Reddit marketing workflow | |
| PainOnSocial | $19 – $49/mo | 0–100 | Going deep on one niche | |
| BigIdeasDB | $99 – $349 once | 5+ platforms | — | Breadth, one-time cost |
| findmeidea | $14.99/mo or $199 once | 200+ subreddits | 0–100 | Finding what to build |

GummySearch closed over licensing, not product quality. It had 135,000 users and a founder who cared. That is worth remembering, because the same thing can happen again — Reddit’s published commercial rate is around $0.24 per 1,000 API calls, and in May 2026 a wave of free Reddit integrations broke when unauthenticated endpoints started returning 403.
So the useful questions when you evaluate a replacement:
None of this is a reason to avoid Reddit research. The signal there is real. It is a reason to keep your own copy of anything that matters.
Has GummySearch shut down?
Not completely, not yet. It stopped selling on 30 November 2025 and the free tier closed, but the product stays online for customers who had a paid subscription then. Full shutdown is 1 December 2026.
When is the real deadline?
1 December 2026 — the product goes offline and all accounts and data are deleted, free accounts included. Your own subscription may end sooner, whenever its billing period expires.
Why did it close?
Fed could not reach a commercial licensing agreement with Reddit that fit Reddit’s Data API usage policies, and chose to wind down rather than operate without one.
How many people used it?
Over 135,000, per the founder’s own announcement. Most listicles say 140,000; 135,000 is the number in the source.
Can I still get my data out?
Yes, while your access lasts. Paid customers keep access to the end of their billing period — for some annual plans that runs into late 2026. Free users can still log in to view or download. Everything goes on 1 December 2026.
What replaces the monitoring features?
F5Bot if you want free, Prowlo if you want it piped into an AI agent, RedShip if you want replies and a posting workflow on top.
What if I want to find an idea rather than monitor one?
Different category. findmeidea, PainOnSocial and BigIdeasDB are idea and pain-point databases; the monitoring tools will not do that job however cheap they are.
